We. Construct. Marvels.
Between. Monuments.

hosted by the Portland Art Museum

July 20 – October 14, 2018

This series of five exhibitions developed in partnership with artists and art collectives invited a range of emerging and established voices to ask questions about how the Museum can become more artist-centered and inclusive in its practices and become more critically engaged with a broader array of emerging and established artists in the region.

MOTHA was included in the fourth iteration, Between., which showcased the curatorial processes of folks between or beyond the binary. Through the work of LGBTQIA2S+ artists primarily showcasing video-based work, they challenge normative art world conventions accounting for the contemporary conversations of visibility politics. MOTHA contributed Trans Video Store (2018), a broadside containing black-and-white digital drawings of VHS and DVD covers as the third continuation to Trans Hirstory in 99 Objects.

Contributions by Chris E. Vargas and MOTHA.

Curated by Libby Werbel with Sara Krajewski, Grace Kook-Anderson, and Stephanie Parrish.
